This post from Engadget really sent a chill down my spine..

It looks like Hulu's trying yet another ill-fated tactic to keep its content restricted to traditional browsers and off things like Boxee -- TunerFreeMCE's Martin Millmore says Hulu's HTML is now encrypted at the source and then decrypted using Javascript on the client. That means plugins that parse the Hulu site for links to content won't work anymore, but man, what a complicated monkey dance for basically no gain -- it's already been broken, and we're wondering what Hulu's going to do when Boxee or another company stops playing around and simply builds a full-on WebKit or Gecko browser with a tweaked ID string into their app. Keep driving towards that cliff, guys -- millions of users who want Hulu on their TVs and will jump through hoops to get it don't represent any kind of market opportunity or anything.

Generally I try not to return to a topic when I have nothing new to say but this post is more of a plea.

I really need someone to explain why this isn't considered wrong.  Basically the engadget writer is saying "Just give up hulu.  It doesn't matter how hard you try to prevent us from taking this from you we're going to use any means necessary to get it.  So there's no point in trying to prevent it"

Now I ask: How is that not wrong?

I have, at this point in my life, studied just about every system of morality ever published.  Aristotle, Kant, Rand,  et al.  Given that experience you'd think I'd be able to think of at least one that would approve of this behavior.  But it's simply beyond me.

More on point I've read countless posts from bloggers who decry spam sites that scrape their content and then repost it.  How is that different from this?  Boxee is a company whose goal is to make money and they are taking the content off another web site, without that web site's permission, and reposting it.

It is the exact same thing.

So please, someone, explain to me why this is ok.  Tell me why every blogger I read is actually rooting for Boxee.  Is it really just selfishness?  You want hulu's content so it doesn't matter how Boxee gets it for you?  Because I'd hate to believe that's the case.
